Flight Experience

Typically, hot air balloon flights in Wadi Rum begin early in the morning to take advantage of the calm winds and cooler temperatures. Participants are usually required to arrive at the Wadi Rum Visitor Center around 5:45 AM. From there, they are transported to the launch site where they can witness the preparation of the balloon. The flight itself ascends to approximately 3,000 feet (about 1,000 meters), providing passengers with panoramic views of the stunning desert landscape below.

The duration of the flight is generally around one hour; however, participants should allocate about 2-3 hours for the entire experience, which includes transportation to and from the launch site. The flights are conducted by experienced pilots who ensure safety and provide insights into the geography and history of Wadi Rum during the journey.

Weather Considerations

Weather plays a crucial role in hot air ballooning. Flights may be canceled due to adverse weather conditions such as high winds or rain. In such cases, operators typically offer a full refund or reschedule options for participants. It is essential for travelers to check weather forecasts and be flexible with their plans when booking these tours.

What’s Included in Hot Air Balloon Tours

Most hot air balloon tours include:

  • Transportation from the Wadi Rum Visitor Center to the take-off location.
  • A one-hour hot air balloon flight over Wadi Rum.
  • Post-flight transportation back to the visitor center.

However, it is important to note that transportation to and from Wadi Rum from other locations (like Amman) is not included in most packages. Additionally, travel insurance and tips are also not covered.
